X-1
- Captain's Office -Includes the Ship's Secretary. Maintains the CO's daily schedule, monitors the awards system and maintains officer service records.
- Administrative Office -Provides support to the XO. Maintains ticklers for reports/messages, maintains directives, produces the POD and maintains leave accounting.
- Print Shop -Official print services for the ship, air wing and battle group.
X-2
- Personnel Office -Maintains enlisted service records and EDVR. Handles enlisted separations, re-enlistments, processes evaluations, ID cards and PCS orders.
X-3
- Public Affairs Office -Includes the Public Affairs Officer. Produces the ship's newspaper, broadcasts TV and radio channels, coordinates official visits and media.
X-4
- MWR -Maintains fitness rooms, games and equipment for crew use; coordinates command parties and sports teams; and runs a ticket resale program.
AIMD (Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department)
IM-1
- Maintenance/Material/Admin/QA -Provides administrative and logistics support to the work centers. Includes the department DC/3M and Berthing work center .
IM-2
- General Maint -Jet Engine Shop, Structural and Hydraulic Repair and Paraloft.
IM-3
- Avionics Armament -The largest division in AIMD. Provides electrical and electronic repair of aircraft components. Includes the ship's Calibration Lab.
IM-4
- Support Equipment -Provides repair, training and licensing of all SE.
AIR Department
AIR is the largest department on the ship.
V-1
- Flight Deck -Handles all A/C on the flight deck. Includes Crash and Salvage.
V-2
- Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment -Operates and maintains the catapults, arresting gear machinery and operates the Visual Landing Aids (VLA).
V-3
- Hangar Deck -Handles all aircraft on the hangar deck. Includes the operation of aircraft elevators, hangar bay doors, and fire fighting equipment.

- Aviation Fuels -Handles the storage and issue of aviation fuels and lubricants.
V-5
- Air Administration -Responsible for the administration of the Air Department and the operation of PRI-FLY (Primary Flight Control, Air Boss and Mini Boss).
* V-1 and V-3 get all their equipment from AIMD; without this equipment they would not be able to support aircraft launch, recovery and movement.
Combat Systems
CS-1
- Communications -Provides secure, reliable voice and data communications. Includes the Message Center.
CS-2
- Comm Repair -Maintains Line-of-sight and satellite Comm systems, video teleconferencing, secure briefing TV systems, ship's telephone system, SITE television, flight deck communications, Crypto equipment, and Hydra hand-held radios.
CS-3
- ADP (Automated Data Processing) -Computer & Copier repair. Maintains the Ships Local Area Network (LAN) and electronic mail.
CS-5
- Data Systems -Maintains Combat Direction Center display, Undersea Warfare Module, Carrier Intelligence Center, Meteorological systems and ships Tactical LAN.
CS-6
- Radar and Navigational Aids -Maintains and repairs all search radars, Carrier Air Traffic Control systems, Identification Friend or Foe equipment, and ship's electronic navigation systems.
CS-7
- Weapons -Operate and maintain the ship's self-defense systems; NATO Sea Sparrow Surface Missile System, Target Acquisition System and Close-In Weapon System.
Deck Department
Headed by First Lieutenant. Responsible for manning the bridge underway watch team, provides SAR swimmers, and care of the ship's exterior from the flight deck down.
FIRST
- Forecastle -Responsible for the maintenance of the foc'sle, operation and handling of anchors, ground tackle, forward mooring lines, and Bos'ns Locker.
SECOND
- Amidships -Handles underway replenishment (1st and 3rd divisions assist), operates Canvas and Bunting shop, and responsible for amidships mooring lines.
THIRD
- Aft of Frame 180 -Responsible for operating and maintaining motor whale boats and Captain's Gig, aft mooring lines, accommodation ladders, and the stern dock.
Dental Department
Provides dental health care to prevent and/or treat diseases, disabilities, or injuries of the teeth, jaws and related structures.
Engineering Department
A
- AUXILIARY -Maintains auxiliary equipment outside propulsion plants. Maintains steam lines, air conditioning, refrigeration, hydraulic systems, high/low pressure air systems, liquid O2 / N2 plant, galley equip, hot water, and ventilation heating systems.
R
- REPAIR -Assists with piping repair, welding, metal fabrication, and engraving services; maintains the ship's CHT system and provides locksmith services.
E
- ELECTRICAL/IC -Responsible for distribution and maintenance of electrical power; maintains the sound-powered phone systems, alarm and announcing circuits.
DC
- DAMAGE CONTROL -Responsible for the maintenance of damage control readiness, ship's stability, and fixed fire fighting systems. Maintains the repair lockers and CBR Defense equipment and the ship's Gas Free Engineering program.
MAINT
- Ship's Maintenance Manager -Responsible for the administration of the ship's Material Maintenance Management (3-M) System.
MSC
- Material Support Center -Technical library for the ship, maintains all configuration control information.
Legal Department
LEG
- LEGAL -Assists the CO with NJP, Courts-Martials and Administrative separations. Assists the command with legal advice: training, standards of conduct, customs and ethics. Provides legal assistance to the crew.
- BRIG -Operates 24 hours a day, can hold 17 prisoners.
SEC
- Security/MAA -Performs fingerprinting and urinalysis. Provides information concerning local crime, scams, car dealers, off limit areas and ATM robbers.
Medical Department
Provides routine health care to elective, and if necessary, emergency surgery. Maintains five Battle Dressing Stations (BDS's), manned during General Quarters.
Navigation Department
NN
- Navigation -Quartermasters are responsible for the safe navigation of the ship, they use charts, visual aids, electronic navigation equipment and the stars
NS
- Signals -Communicates visually with naval and commercial ships (Flashing light, semaphore and flag hoists).
Operations Department
OA
- Meteorology -Provides weather reports and forecasts for ship and pilot briefs.
OC
- Air OPS/CATCC –CATCC divided into two areas. Air Ops is responsible for status keeping of all air operations. CCA (Carrier Controlled Approach) provides air traffic control services through use of radar and ALS. Under the direction of Air Operations Officer.
OI
- CDC (Combat Direction Center) -Gather, process, display, evaluate, and disseminate all tactical information and assist the bridge in radar piloting and navigation.
OM
- USW Module -(Under sea warfare) Provides support for anti-submarine warfare helicopter and fixed wing aircraft squadrons. It can be utilized as a command/control center by staff for maintaining the overall picture for battle group anti-submarine warfare support.
OP
- Photography -Runs the Photo Lab and provides photographic support.
OS
- CRYPTO -Ship's Signals Exploitation Space (SSES) responsible for providing timely Crypto support and Indications and Warning (I&W) in support of sustained air operations for the Battle Group.
OW
- EW Module -Electronic warfare.
OX
- OPS Admin -Handles all administrative support for Operations Department.
OZ
- Carrier Intelligence Center (CVIC) -Supports the air wing and provides hostile indications & warning to the CO to defend the ship against enemy forces. CVIC collects, processes, analyzes, evaluates and disseminates intelligence data. Includes the snoopy team. Aerial Processing, located in the Intelligence Center, processes, duplicates and prints aerial reconnaissance film.
Reactor Department
RA
- Reactor Auxiliaries -Responsible for the preventive/corrective maintenance of mechanical items of the four Emergency Diesel Generators and their supporting equipment.
RC
- Reactor Controls -Responsible for the maintenance for all electronic reactor control equipment used for the operation of the nuclear reactors.
RE
- Reactor Electrical -Responsible for the production and distribution of electrical power from four Ship's Service Turbine Generators (SSTG's).
RL
- Reactor Laboratory -Responsible for maintaining reactor plant and steam plant water chemistry and for radiological controls associated with the nuclear reactors.
RM
- Reactor Mechanical -Responsible for the preventive and corrective maintenance of the mechanical systems directly associated with the reactors.
RT
- Reactor Training -Responsible for the nuclear continuing training program.
M
- Main Propulsion -Provides maintenance for the four main propulsion engines, service turbine generators, water distilling units and propulsion plant auxiliary equipment.
Religious Ministries Department
Provides worship services, scripture studies, and Pastoral Counseling. The Command Chaplain is the shipboard Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society representative. Maintains the library; audio books, CD's and an educational video library. The LMRC (Library Multimedia Resource Center) provides computers and a PACE station.
Safety Department
Safety's mission is to make personnel aware of the dangers of a shipboard environment. Directly involved in organizational safety and health (industrial hygienist).
Supply Department
S-1
- Stock Control -Encompasses the logistics, inventory, financial management, customer services, open-purchase, Servmart and ship's OPTAR reconciliation.
S-2
- Food Service - Responsible for the provision of quality meals. The General Mess has two separate facilities: the Enlisted Mess and the Private Messes (CPO and Wardroom).

- Sales -Provide retail sales, barber services, laundry, dry cleaning and tailoring.

- Disbursing -Responsible for the accuracy of all Leave and Earning Statements.

- Hazardous Material -Responsible for the receipt, storage, handling, and transportation of all hazardous material onboard.
Training Department
T-1
- TEMADD/QUOTA CONTROL -In charge of all temporary additional duty (TAD) orders for the ship including all training quotas. Processes all cost and no-cost TAD orders.
T-2
- School of the Ship -A two-week indoctrination period covering a wide variety of topics both required and beneficial to newly reported personnel.
T-3 Human Resources Management
- CAREER COUNSELORS: Assist in career decisions and special requests.
- EQUAL OPPORTUNITY ADVISOR: Handles any equal opportunity questions, complaints, concerns, and acts as the CO/XO's advisor and advocate for crew members.
- COMMAND DRUG AND ALCOHOL PROGRAM ADVISOR (DAPA): Screens all personnel involved in drug or alcohol related incidents as well as personnel who self-refer.
T-4
- EDUCATIONAL SERVICES OFFICER -Helps sailors advance in rate, apply for officer programs, start college classes, and participate in shipboard educational opportunities.
Weapons Department
G-1
- Flight/Hanger Deck Ordnance -Responsible for supplying ammunition and explosive ordnance to the air wing. Responsible for the safety, security, upkeep, inventory, monitoring and movement of all explosive ordnance located on or above the main deck.
G-2
- Ship's Armory/Magazine Sprinklers -Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Ship's Armory, magazine sprinkler systems, receipt, stowage, handling and accounting of the ships assigned Arms, Ammunition and Explosives (AA&E).

- Weapons Assembly -Responsible for the safe receipt, handling, stowage, breakout, assembly and delivery to the hangar deck of ammunition and explosive ordnance, and airborne weapons.
G-4
- Weapons Elevators -Responsible for the safe, efficient operation and administration of all weapons elevator systems. Conducts training and provides licensing for all weapons elevator operators and maintenance personnel.

- Ordnance Control/Admin Support/EOD Detachment when embarked -Responsible for providing administrative support for the department including ammunition accounting, training, financial management and correspondence management.
